A year in my kitchen garden

Food-lovers and garden-lovers! We have a real treat for you.

Chef Kate Benson has teamed up with Tresillian's renowned head gardener John Harris to launch Cornwall's first residential gardening and cookery course.

"To have the opportunity to learn in one of the most beautiful and established organic walled gardens in Britain, harvest our own fruit and vegetables, cook local meat and fish, and be by the sea, seems like heaven to me," says Kate.

Kate's natural enthusiasm and skill in the kitchen is contagious. She'll show you how to make the most of local ingredients at their seasonal best. What could be better than fruit, vegetables and herbs straight from garden to kitchen! Whether you're expert or novice, Kate will teach you how to produce simple clean dishes that look delicious and taste fabulous.

John is a real expert. He'll talk you through the traditional art of moon gardening. You'll learn how to plan a kitchen garden, techniques for tending plants, and how and when to harvest the produce. Whether you have a window box or a large garden plot, there's nothing quite like growing, harvesting and cooking your own produce.

During the week, you'll also spend a morning out at a local Cornish fish market, maybe see the fish landed, select from the catch of the day, and then return to Tresillian to produce a seafood feast. You'll also learn from a local food producer who will demonstrate their craft. It could be bread making, butchery or apple pressing. And you'll have an afternoon and two evenings free so you can explore the Cornish beaches and countryside and maybe try out nearby Jamie's and Rick Stein's restaurants, or even both. Mmmm!
